In their first official hit out of 2005, the new Arana/Springwood Under 17’s certainly had a few things going against them from the start. Without a lot of time together to gel and 7 players from the squad unavailable through Colts or injury, the team started the 2005 campaign with a bang. The first ten minutes Logan did not touch the ball and A/S were up 16-0. Finally with some ball Logan put some points on the board which followed with another A/S try and the half time score was 22 – 6. Both coaches were pleased with the opening efforts….but that was about to change. Logan came out in the second half booming and before to long it was 22-22 with ten minutes to go. Logan then hit the front 26 – 22 and they looked to have the ball on a string. With numbers dwindling through heat and injury, A/S hooker Nathan Strudwick went through two and under the posts to level the scores with three minutes to go. Shaun Maloney popped over the extras and it was a very relieved coaching staff at the end. Best players for A/S were the props Matt Goshnick and Zac Hook, 2nd Row Shay Newdick, Centre Shaun Maloney and half Josh Lennox. Geoff Holcombe and Nathan Strudwick guided the team around the park well all day.
