Congratulations to Daniel Issac from Springwood/Arana on being selected in the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Team to play against New Zealand. Other Queenslanders selected were Joel Moon from Wests Colts, Darius Boyd from the Gold Coast and Dave Taylor from Central Qld. Qld finished third.
Also. congratulations to Lagi Setu (ex-Centenary) who was selected in the Australian Schoolboys Rugby Team to play Japan - 8 other Queenslanders were selected - Gavin Warren, James Hanson, Ben Daley, Daniel Linde, David Pocock, Josh Afu, Brett Gillespie and Brett Stapleton. Qld lost the final 20-10 to NSW.
QLD BEAT JAPAN IN RUGBY: Several "Leaguies" featured in Qld Schools 69-30 win over Japan Schools at TSS on Wednesday. Current U17 players Alex Tallon (Sprana) and Rob Southwood (Norths) played as well as former comp players Matt, Smith, Fraser Evans, Dan Gorman and Joe Chudleigh. Tallon scored 3 tries and Evans 2 as the Qld backs carved up the Japanese, easing up in the second half after leading 50-11 at half time. Interesting to also note Matt Smith is playing "A" Grade for Wynnum this weekend - well done Matt!
AUSTRALIA SMASH JAPAN IN RUGBY: Congratulations to Quade Cooper (Rochedale) and Lagi Setu (ex-Centenary) who featured in Australia's 103-5 smashing of Japan Schoolboys during the week. Both have been selected in the Australian Team to take on Samoa at Ballymore next month. Alex Tallon has also been selected for the Australia A team which is playing Samoa at Churchie next month.
AUSTRALIA "A" UPSET NEW ZEALAND: The Australia "A" Rugby team, containing Arana's Alex Tallon, have defeated NZ schools 14-13 with a converted try after the full-time bell in Sydney. It is only NZ Schools third defeat in 15 years, and Australia "A"'s first win over them!!
REP RUGBY: Good to see a few Leaguies continue to shine in the School Rugby Rep games against Samoa. Alex Tallon played for Australia "A" in their 12-6 win over Samoa at Churchie last week and was also named AIC Player of the Year. Clayton Hoet, Joe Chudleigh, Daniel Gorman, Fraser Evans and big "Nems" all played in the backs for Queensland in their 14-10 loss to Samoa last week at Noosa. Quade Cooper and Lagi Setu shone for Australia in their 43-6 win over Samoa at Ballymore on Wednesday. Alex T and Quade C will play for Australia "A" and Australia respectively against New Zealand down south next week.
