Selection Carnival Slaughters
Redcliffe, Redlands, Logan Brothers and Arana cemented their positions in the top 4 of the BJRL U13 Junior A Competition with comprehensive wins at the Brisbane Selection Carnival at Kitchener Park Wynnum on Sunday 22nd April.

Redlands started proceedings with a 74-4 demolition of fellow bayside club Wynnum,  with the home team scoring their only points in the last minute of the match.  Redlands, who started the season slowly, are now really hitting their straps and will be a handful for competition leaders, Redcliffe, next  Friday night.

Next to play were Arana and Souths, and with Phippsy and big Brent leading the way up front, the Panthers backs had a field day scoring 11 tries in the 50-14 romp, with the 2 Alex's bagging 8 between them.  Mitchell Carr scored 2 with Brendan getting his first try of the season.

Aspley and Logan Brothers took the field next in what was expected to be a close one, but Aspley started poorly letting the southsiders skip away to a 26-0 halftime lead, and a 32 point lead early in the 2nd half.  To their credit Aspley fought on well from that point forward but it was a case of "too little, too late" with the Logan Bros running out 50-18 winners.

The last game of the day was between the undefeated Redcliffe side and fellow northsiders Holy Spirit , fresh from their 24-8 win over the Arana Panthers in their last game.  Holy Spirit were a little shaky early but fought back to be only trailing by 6 late in the first half.  A couple of Dolphin tries just before half time were telling however, and they skipped away in the 2nd half to win 42-4.

With 2 games remaining in the first round, Redcliffe lead the competition on 10 points, Redlands are on 8, with Logan Brothers and Arana rounding off the top 4 on 6 points.  Aspley and Holy Spirit are a further 2 points back with Souths on 2 points and Wynnum yet to win a game.
