On a very hot Sunday with a stacked squad, Sprana took on Easts at Scott Park. Easts were coming off a very good win against Logan and Sprana were looking to get back into the winners circle after a loss to Norths. The game started off as it finished last week for the Sprana boys with some early handling errors. After some completed sets, the boys got over for some good first half tries through Doug Harden, Daniel Isaac and Blair Conlon. All four tries were scored out wide and no conversions were recorded. Easts went over just before half time and Sprana led at half time 16 – 4. Daniel Pederson and Dean Bannerman performed especially well in the first half, in attack and defence.
Half time we addressed a few areas we needed to concentrate and it was pleasing to see these instructions come to fruition. As we have been saying there are different styles of plays for different oppositions and conditions and it was satisfying to see the boys carry these out. Geoff Holcombe and Jason McKee got the ball moving well to our outside backs and Blair and Daniel scored 4 second half tries between them. Some big ball running from Liam McDonald and Zac Hook saw the team get on the front foot. Daniel Pederson was the stand out player on the park with some punishing defence and attack and he was rewarded with two great tries, one of those was a solo 60 metre effort.
With tries coming thick and fast in the second half, the only thing that was not following was the conversions. It took us till the 8th try before we converted a goal through Daniel Isaac and followed by a Liam McDonald goal. Zac Hook could not match his front Row counterpart in that department as his attempt was waved away. Congratulations to Zac Hook who joined Liam the previous night in playing for Hills District Colts.
