2004 BJRL U16A Round 18 Preview
Note for "Head-to-Head" performances I have used Redlands for Springwood in 2001 to 2003.

Some interesting matchups this weekend, with the Redcliffe/Springwood game in particular critical to the makeup of the top 2.
NORTHS (1st) v ARANA (5th): Friday Aug 6 8.30pm at Bishop Park
PREMIERSHIP ODDS: Norths: 2/1 ($3.00) in from 9/4 ($3.25); Arana: 25/1 ($26.00) out from 15/1 ($16.00)
This Year: Round 4: Norths 22 def Arana 8; Round 11: Norths 34 def Arana 22
Head to Head 2001/4: Norths 2 Arana 2
Last 3 Games:  Norths: Redcliffe W 12-10; Easts W 42-12; Springwood W 24-16
               Arana: Centenary W 26-12; Logan Bros L 20-24; Redcliffe L 16-23
Absolutely the last throw of the dice for an Arana team with still a clim chance of making the finals. Norths will be on a high after their thrilling win over Redcliffe last week, and some of their players participating in Wavell's Arrive Alive Cup win over Keebra Park on Friday. The Devils have been too good for the Panthers in their two previous meeting this year but with Arana playing for survival this should be a great match.

SPRINGWOOD (2nd) v REDCLIFFE (3rd): Friday Aug 6 8.30pm at Tallowood Park
PREMIERSHIP ODDS: Springwood: 11/4 ($3.75) in from 3/1 ($4.00); Redcliffe: 5/2 ($3.50) in from 3/1 ($4.00)
This Year:  Round 4: Redcliffe 16 def Springwood 12; Round 11: Springwood 16 def Redcliffe 14
Head to Head 2001/4: Redlands/Springwood 10 Redcliffe 2 Drawn 1
Last 3 Games: Springwood: Easts W 44-10; Souths W 52-6; Norths L 16-24
                       Redcliffe: Norths L 10-12; Centenary W 42-4; Arana W 23-16
A critical game for these two teams that could play a big part in deciding who finishes in the critical top 2. Redcliffe fell to Norths in a great game last week after 3 great wins, whilst Springwood's last loss was also to Norths although they have had wins over the bottom two sides since then. This will be a great match, with both previous games between these tow sides this year going right down to the wire.  Home ground advantage may just get Springwood home.

CENTENARY (6th) v LOGAN BROS (4th): Sunday Aug 8 10.00am at Cent Highway Res
PREMIERSHIP ODDS: Centenary: 100/1 ($101.00) out from 20/1 ($21.00); L.B.: Steady at 3/1 ($4.00)
This Year: Round 4: Centenary 20 drew Logan Bros 20; Round 11: Logan Bros 42 def Centenary 6
Head to Head 2001/4: Logan Bros 5 Centenary 2 Drawn 1
Last 3 Games:  Centenary: Arana L 12-28; Redcliffe L 4-42; Easts W 22-14
  Logan Bros: Souths W 46-12; Arana W 24-20; Redcliffe L 18-34
Centenary have been decimated by injury (deja vu from 2003) and may struggle to field a competitive team against what may also be an understrength Logan Bros outfit. Centenary dug deep against Arana last Sunday despite their shortage of numbers and were rewarded with the last two tries of the match. A win here would keep their miniscule finals hopes flickering.

EASTS (7th) v SOUTHS (8th): Sunday Aug 8 1.30pm at Scott Park
PREMIERSHIP ODDS: Easts: Out of contention [were 100/1 ($101.00)]; Souths: Out of contention
This Year: Round 4: Easts 32 def Souths 6; Round 11: Easts 20 def Souths 18
Head to Head 2001/4: Souths 5 Easts 2
Last 3 Games: Easts: Springwood L 10-44; Norths L 12-42; Centenary L 14-22
                       Souths: Logan Bros 12-46; Springwood L 6-52; Arana L 0-52
Both sides are out of contention for this year, although Soutsh may very well see this as a big opportunity to get their first win of the year. They went desperately close in the Round 11 encounter, and despite sone big scorelines against them in the last 3 rounds they do not lack ability, as shown by the fact they led Logan Bros 12-0 early in last week's game. Easts have shown they have the ability to trouble even the good sides and will not make it easy for the Magpies.
