GRAND FINAL: ARANA 26 d Holy Spirit 22 at Dec.Bay (HT Holy Spirit 22-10)

Grand final day had arrived with the Arana team up to the task chasing their 6th win in a row. With the head to head being one each it was anyone's game. The game started very physical with some hard tackles and hit ups form both teams. At the 10 minute mark Arana gave away a penalty allowing Holy Spirit to punish us by turning it into points. The next 10 minutes saw Holy Spirit run away to quick 22 nil score line. Arana to their credit fought back with 2 tries and 1 goal to go to the half time break down 22 - 10. Once again the second half started off a touch encounter. Arana kept applying the pressure until finally Phillip scored near the goal post and it was converted by Doug. With about 5 minutes to go Peter scored in the corner which was magnificently converted by Doug to tie the game. At this stage it was looking like we would go into extra time. With some great team work Arana broke the dead lock with a try to Matt F. in the corner. Holy Spirit didn't give up and last 2 minutes of the game was very intense but the end result was an Arana win. The win was a credit to all players and their Coach Bruce. A special thanks to the boys from the U/14's Russell Dutton, Ben Webb and Arron Watkins who helped us get to the finals and win the grand final.
Preliminary Final: ARANA 24 d Redlands 18 at Creek Rd (HT Redlands 14-6)

Once again Arana was going in as the underdogs as Redlands had beaten them in both fixture matches.
Arana opened the score first with a try from Tim which was converted by Doug. Defense from both sides was great but Arana allowed Redlands to dictate and go to a 16 to 6 lead at half time. Redlands scored first in the second half from an Arana mistake, but to their credit Arana kept their heads up and fought back to tie the game at 18 all with 5 minutes to go. With Matt leading the way in the forwards the team got Phillip over the line and it was converted by Doug to take us to the lead for the first time and win the match. Another great team game. Top tacklers Doug 11, Kevin/Tim 10. Top hit ups Doug 8, Kevin/Phillip 6.

Knockout Semi: ARANA 30 d Redcliffe 6 at Bora Ring (HT Arana 20-6)

Arana went to the game knowing it was going to be a tough encounter having not beaten Redcliffe in the fixture games. Arana opened the scoring with Kevin busting through to score and Arana continued to attack to go a healthy 20 - 6 lead at half time. The forwards took the ball up well and got away passes to the back line who then showed their skills. It was a great team game. Unfortunately the game was called off 8 minutes early due to Redcliffe unable to field a team.
Qualifying Semi: Redlands 14 def Redcliffe 0
Elimination Semi: ARANA 30 d Burpengary 12 at Dec.Bay (HT Burp 6-0)

Arana won the toss and ran against the wind in the first half. With too much drop ball Arana put pressure on themselves in the first half letting Burpengary go to halftime led of 6. The second half saw Arana came out well defending and capitalizing on Burpengary's mistakes. Doug opened the score for Arana with the first try. 10 mins later Pat and Shane (2 tries) pushed the score to a quick 18 - 6 lead. Arana then went to sleep and let Burpengary in for a soft try, but recovered to continue to attack. Doug and Peter scored our last two tries. Ben Webb and Russell Dutton from the 14's played well. Overall it was a great team win. Work load was shared well.

With such an early start it was a worry that the boys would not be awake to play football. But to their credit they were at the start with Phillip scoring in the first 5 mins and it was converted by Doug. Callan went over at about the 10 minute mark to take us to a 10 nil lead. This did not last because Arana went to sleep and let Burpengary score 2 quick tries in the last 10 mins of the first half. The second half saw Arana come out like they started the first half but they did not go to sleep and scored 4 tries converting 3 and kept Burpengary scoreless. Matt F. new to the game got his first try with a great intercept. Shaun back from injuy topped the tackle count with 16 followed by Phillip 13, Matt M. 12. Top hitups Phillip 8, Pat 6 and many on 5. Matt M. was named man of the man, he had a great defensive and attacking game. Ben Webb, Russel Dutton and Matt Harden from the 14's played well for us.
Round 20: ARANA 22 d Holy Spirit 18 at Arana (HT Arana 16-6)

After last weeks game Arana needed something special to beat Holy Spirit. They started by scoring 2 quick tries within 5 mins. The first scored by Doug from dummy half and the second by Shane forma kick across field from Doug. Ball handling and running was of a high standard. Line breaks were exceptionally good. Arana put on another 2 tries to go to a 16 nil score line, but were unable to stop Holy Spirit scoring right on the half time hooter. Holy Spirit came out fired up scoring 2 tries to take the lead (16 - 18). Arana didn't give up and with 5 mins to go Peter scored and it was converted by Doug. For the last 5 mins Arana weather the onslaught from Holy Spirit to take the match. Callan and Pat both had exceptionally good games, but overall it was a great team game with the worked load being evenly spread. Aaron Watkins and Ben Webb from the 14's played.
Round 19: Mt.Gravatt 20 d ARANA 18 at Mt.Gravatt (HT Arana 12-6)

The team started with only 11 of their own players and Ben Webb, David Dwyer, Matt Harden for the 14's. The game saw Arana start well with 2 quick converted tries, but unfortunately silly mistakes and penalties saw Arana go to only a 12 - 6 lead at half time. Mt. Gravatt came out fired up and scored a soft try early to tie the match. Arana continued making silly mistakes and lost the game in the dying minutes of the game. Top tacklers Doug 11, Kev 9. Top hit ups Callan, Peter, Ben Webb, James 7.
Round 18: ARANA 50 def Centenary 14 at Arana (HT Arana 26-8)

Arana started of by letting Centenary in with a soft try after 5 minutes. At the 12 minute mark Arana decided to play football scoring 3 quick tries in the space of 5 minutes. Doug converted 2 of these form the side line. Centenary were allowed to score again before Arana finished the first half off with 2 more tries. Arana came out in the second half scoring after 2 minutes. They continued to run and pass the ball well. Shane (player of the match) had a great captains game catching the ball easily and making plenty of ground. He also topped the hit ups with 10. Doug was top tackler with 15. It was a great team effort with the work load being shared between all players. Aaron Watkins & Matt Harden from 14's helped us out.
Round 17: Redcliffe 16 def ARANA 12 at Redcliffe (HT Arana 6-0)

The game was always going to be a tough encounter. Arana lost James late in the first half to a cheap shot from Redcliffe. At the start of the second half Arana failed to capitalise on Redcliffe being reduced to 11 players (2 sin bin). Redcliffe scored the winning try 2 minutes before full time. Too many mistakes saw Arana loose the game. Top tacklers Peter 14, Matt M. 13. Top hit ups Phillip 10, Callan 7. Phillip was named player of the match. Ben Webb from the 14's helped us out again.
Round 16: Mitchelton 34 def ARANA 26 at Mitchelton (HT Arana 22-4)

Arana with only 15 players played well in the first half go to a commanding lead at half time but unfortunately the second half was completely the oppossite with Arana allowing Mitchelton the run of the field. Arana lost Shaun early in the second half to a bad knee injury.
Round 15: ARANA 40 def Deception Bay 10 at Arana (HT Arana 28-0)

Arana only had 11 of their own players availabe but thankfully 5 U/14's helped us out. They were Brenton Nembach, Ben Webb, Aaron Watkins (Axe), Dan Steins (Blocker) and Matt Harden. Arana started off poorly with some sloppy play but Arron busted through after 10 minutes to score a great try. Arana continued attacking scoring another 5 tries before half try and kept Deception Bay scoreless. The second half saw Deception Bay come out and make things tougher for Arana keeping the second half score to 12 - 10. All U/14's played extremely well with some great hit ups and tackles. Tim was named man of the match with a great back to form game. Top Tackles: Shaun 13, Peter, Tim 9. Top Hit ups Pat/Dan 10.
Round 14: ARANA 20 def Dayboro 8 at Dayboro (HT Arana 16-0)

Arana went to Dayboro with only 13 of their own players and Russell Dutton from the 14's. Russel was a great asset scoring the first try and it was converted by Doug. Matt F. having his second game with us scored the second try. Kev went low and scored near the post before half time. Arana attacked and defended extremely well in the first half but came out in the second half and let Dayboro in with a couple of soft tries. It wasn't until about 7 minutes before full time that Pat stormed over in the corner to score our fourth try. Doug who didn't stop tackling all game was name man of the match. Top Tacklers - Doug 24, Kev 13, Russell 12. Top Hitups - James (Bacon) 10, Pat 9, Russell 8.
Round 13: Norths 32 def ARANA 20 at Dawson Pde (HT Norths 22-6)

Arana once again started off by letting the opposition run the game. Norths were allowed to attack and went to 22 nil lead before Alex went over for our first try 5 minutes before half time. Arana came out in the second half and put on 2 quick tries to bring them within 6 points of Norths. Norths hit back fast with a converted try. The last 5 minutes saw Arana fire up and defend extremely well but far too late. Top tacklers - Shaun 18, Phil 15, Kev 13. Kev was named man of the match with a great back to form game.
Round 12: ARANA 42 def Logan City 10 at Dawson Pde (HT Arana 10-4)

After last week's game 5 major changes were made to the Arana side which proved to be very successful. The first half was a very physical from both teams but unfortunately Logan City lost a player to a bad knee injury. The first half saw some big tackles from Shaun, James and Phil. Arana had more of the ball in the second half and was able to take advantage of this by scoring 6 tries. Top tackles Shaun 13, James/Phil 9. Top Hit ups Callan 7, Doug/Phil 6.
It was a great team game. Arana hopes that both Logan City boys carried from the field have not sustained serious injury.

Arana turned out for a early Friday night game at Redlands but unfortunately they left their minds and football ability at home. Redlands were allowed to dictate the game going to a very easy 30 nil half time score. Arana found some fight to score 2 tries in the second half. Russell Dutton and Aaron Hammet from the 14's helped us out and both had great games with Russell being named man of the match.
Round 11: ARANA 20 def Logan City 12 at Meakin Park (HT Arana 16-0)

Even with only 14 players and wet and slippery conditions Arana started off well with Doug scoring and converting in the first 7 mins. The first half saw all the boys defending well and keeping Logan City scoreless while Peter and Callan scored for Arana.
Arana struggled in the second half with numbers. With 20 mins to go Jason and Kev had a bad head clash which saw Jason take no further part in the game. 5 mins later Kev was taken from the field with a shoulder injury. Arana played the rest of the game with only 12 players. Kyle scored our only try in the second from dummy half. Doug had a man of the match game topping the tackle count with 15 (Jason 11) and also the hit ups with 9 (Callan 7).
Round 10: ARANA 24 def Burpengary 14 at Dawson Pde (HT Burp. 14-10)

Peter scored the first try 4 minutes into the game. Burpengary was then allowed to score 3 tries before Callan scored and it was successfully converted by Doug. The boys came out in the second half and defended extremely well and kept Burpengary scoreless for the entire half. Callan had a great running game scoring 2 more tries giving him a hat trick. Pat had a great man of the match defensive game topping the tackle count with 15 ahead of Shane 9. Kev put in some big hit ups topping with 10, closely followed by Callan 9. A special thanks to the 2 boys from U/14 Ben Web and Aaron Watkins who helped us out and both played well.

The game started off with 4 quick tries in the first 10 minutes (2 each) giving a score line of 12 all. The game was shaping up to be a touch encounter except Arana went missing in action and allowed Holy Spirit to control the game. Unfortunately early in the second half Tyler broke his elbow and will be out for about 8 weeks.
Round 8: ARANA 50 def Mt.Gravatt 18 at Dawson Pde (HT Arana 14-12)

Arana started off with a try from Doug after 5 mins. But Mt Gravatt came back 2 mins later with a try and conversion. At the 12th min mark Phillip scored in the corner and it was successfully converted by Doug. Mt Gravatt again took back led 10 mins later with a converted try. Just before half time Shane scored giving Arana the led at half time by 2. The second half started like the first with Pat scoring 2 mins in. Arana kept up attacking with Ben, Shaun and Peter (2) scoring in quick succession. Mt. Gravatt scored a converted try at the 18 min mark in the 2nd half. Peter scored again 8 mins later. Matt finished off the game with a try 2 mins before half time. Top tacklers were Doug 12, Shaun 9. Pat topped the hit ups with10. Peter had a man of the match game scoring 3 tries consectively within in 15 mins. Doug also had a great overall game.
Round 7: ARANA 4 drew Centenary 4 at Ipswich Rd (HT 0-0)

It started late and the night air causing slippery conditions for both teams. The first half saw good defence resulting in a nil half time score. Arana came out in the second half and put pressure on Centenary from kick off allowing no ground and after Centenary's kick on the fifth Arana attacked and Phillip scored in the corner. Callan (man of the match) had a great attacking game carving up Centenary's defensive line. Peter was backing Callan well. Top hit ups Callan 17, Matt 9. Kev & Pat topped the tackle count with 19 followed closely by Doug 16, and Jason with an exceptionally improved game with 15. After Centeneary scored the pressure was intense. Centenary failed a field goal attempt. and Arana was denied a try 1 minute before full time.
Round 6: Redcliffe 26 def ARANA 8 at Dawson Pde (HT Redcliffe 26-4)

The boys started off like they trained during the week with no commitment allowing Redcliffe to score a quick 26 unanswered points in the first 20 minutes. Then Matt lead the was with a man of the match effort encouraging the forwords. Top tacklers with 11 each Matt, Shaun, Pat and Kev. Arana kept Redcliffe scoreless for the rest of the match. To hit ups Callan 10, Doug 12.

Once again Arana started off well by Shaun scoring a try within the first 5 mins. Unfortunately Arana let in a couple of soft tries. Kyle had another great wingers game scoring a hat trick.
Phil also had a great game getting player of the match. Even with a heavy penalty count against both teams the work load from Arana was spready evenly thoughout the game.
Round 3: ARANA 48 def Dayboro 4 at Dawson Pde (HT Arana 24-0)

Shane opened the scoring within the first 5 mins with a run away try under the goal post which was converted by Doug. Shaun scored our second try which came from a extremely high bomb put up by Doug who successfully converted it. Arana continued to attack and score 3 more tries before half time. Good defense in the first half kept Dayboro scoreless.
The boys came out in the second half and continued on where they left off scoring 4 more tries that were all successfully converted. Some big hit ups came from Bacon (James) and Matt. Ben was scooting well from dummy half causing havoc and making good ground. Ben topped the hit ups with 14 followed by Matt 12. Shaun had an exceptional defensive game with 24 tackles followed by Doug 16. Overall it was a great team win. You could see the boys were thinking all the time and trying new moves.
Round 2: ARANA 20 def Norths 18 at Bishop Park (HT Norths 18-6)

We started off with only 14 players (1 injured) but the boys went out there with a purpose. Unfortunately they did not take advantage of this and let Norths score a couple of soft tries in the first half. In the second half they came out with more purpose and proved that team work can work. The boys worked well together to cause problems for Norths. The defence was excellent by all. Also they showed that with the ball they can be a very good attacking team. They proved both by keeping Norths scoreless in the second half. Ben and Matt both had exceptional games.

.For our first game match we had all our players but unfortunately the heat of the day took it's toll. Kyle his second year playing league continued improving by making a great wingers try and unfortunately was halted by great defence from making more. Great team effort boys.def
