A fine breezy day greeted players for the two Foundation Shield quarter finals at Kougari Oval, with Logan Bros taking on Souths Toowoomba in one, and Redlands meeting Arana in the other, which was also the 2003 Chairman's Trophy.
The Logan Bros and Souths Toowoomba game began with the Brisbane team holding the territorial advantage for the first 20 minutes but fine Souths Twba defence held them to only one try in the corner which was converted for a 6-0 lead. The country team finally got an opportunity in attack and levelled the scores 10 minutes before the break. These 10 minutes proved critical however as in this time Logan Bris crossed for two fine tries to jump away to a 10 point lead at the break. Any hope of a Souths Twba comeback was snuffed out in the first 12 minutes of the second stanza with Logan Bros crossing for 3 more tries. Souths Twba did not give up however and held Logan Bros for the next 15 mins, and even put on a try themselves, but Logan Bros sealed the match with a try right n fulltime making the final score 36-12.

Redlands took the field in their new jerseys with "gridiron numbering" for the Chairman's Trophy match against Arana with both teams adopting a very low key approach to the match. The first 15 minutes was very much an arm wrestle with good defence from both sides keeping the opposition scoreless, although Redlands had territorial advantage. Redlands finally broke through with Vaughan crossing wide out from a repeat set after a penalty. His conversion gave Redlands a 6-0 lead, and soon after it was 10-0 when Ben E tiptoed down the sideline to score in the corner. Redlands were well and truly on top but could not finish off, and ironically it was Arana who were next to score, when, after a long break in play while Alex F was stretchered off with a knee injury, captain Brent H broke the line and offloaded to Alex T and it was "shut-the gate". Alex T converted his own try and the halftime score was 10-6 to Redlands. Arana had 2 great opportunities to score in the opening few minutes of the second half but the Redlands defence hed, and the the responded with two tries to Jay in 5 minutes to kick away to a 14 point lead. Eight minutes later Arana restored some hope when Dean crossed off a Nash break, after Alex T had been held up and had 2 tries disallowed in a frenetic 2 minutes. A Matt Smith try 3 minutes later pushed Redlands back out to 12 points in front and despite them knocking on in-goal from the kick-off Arana were just not playing well enough to mount a grand-final like finish, and it was Redlands who scored two tries in the last 5 minutes to blow the final score out to Redlands 34 Arana 12. Matt Handcock had another superb game, whilst Luke and Rob S stood out in a losing side. Also thanks to Will and Andrew who came up from the U14s to help out.
