RESULTS/GAME SUMMARIES:
Elimination Semi: Redlands 30 def Arana 24 at Centenary (HT 14-14)
Scorers: C.Higgs 2, S.Eremas, P.Farrell, K.O'Sullivan tries; M.Elmes 2 goals.
For the first time all year we had all players in attendance. Once again we started off well scoring the first try and converting within the first 5 mins. Arana scored again before Redlands scored their first try. Lapses in defence saw Redlands equalling the score at half time. The second half saw Arana throwing bad passes and lapsing in defence. Callan and Kevin once again were showing the way in defence. Time ran out for Arana with their final try on the full time hooter. Mitch was taken from the field 5 mins before full time very groggy but recovered well. Video evidence showed Callan was acidentally responsible.
Final 4v5: Redcliffe 36 def Arana 20 at Albany Ck (HT Redcliffe 18-2)
Scorers: B.Crowley 2, K.O'Sullivan, S.Palmer tries; M.Elmes 2 goals.
The game started with a penalty goal in the first 5 mins., but lack of commitment by players saw Redcliffe score some soft tries before half time. The second half saw both teams scoring point for point resulting in Redcliffe winning. Callan had great game in defence and attack.
Round 18: Arana 20 def Redcliffe 18 at Dolphin Oval (HT Redcliffe 12-6)
Scorers: P.Walsh, P.Flanagan, B.Crowley tries; M.Elmes 4 goals.
Arana kicked off with the breeze against them and held a strong defensive line before Phillip went over for the first try ten minutes into to the game and was converted by Mitch. Redcliffe came back strong to put in two quick tries and converted them with great kicks from the sideline by Justin. Second half started well for Arana with a great try by Paul and conversion by Mitch(side line) to tie the game. It took another 10 mins before Ben went over for a try and again converted by Mitch. Arana did well to hold out Redcliffe but they came back with a converted try. With 5 mins to go Redcliffe gave away a penalty which Mitch converted into points. Matt had a great defensive game with Callan and Paul had great running games.
Round 17: Logan Bros 24 def Arana 20 at Dawson Pde (HT L.B. 20-4)
Scorers: P.Cox, P.Flanagan, K.O'Sullivan, C.Higgs tries; M.Elmes, S.Rowlands goals.
Due to mistakes and drop ball Logan had much more of the ball in the first half and took advantage of this. Arana came out in second half a different team keeping Logan to only 4 points. Tackles were shared between the whole team. There were some very hard tackles by the forwards but one tackle Kev did was heard from the sideline. (ouch)
The boys came very close to winning this one. It was a good hard game leading up to the semis. Well done boys.
Round 16: Arana 32 def Deception Bay 16 at Govt Rd (HT Arana 18-12)
Scorers: K.O'Sullivan 3, P.Walsh 2, P.Flanagan, P.Cox tries; S.Rowland, M.Elmes goals.
Arana started with 2 quick tries but they made it hard for themselves with heaps of missed tackles and leaving gaps in their defence allowing the opposition to run. Forwards took the ball up well. Peter C. scored a great try from a kick on the 5th tackle from the middle of the 20 to the corner. Congradulations goes to the boys for holding their cool with the aggressive play by the opposition.
Round 15: Arana 66 def St.Brendans 4 at Dawson Pde (HT Arana 44-0)
Scorers: C. Higgs 3, P. Flanagan 3, P. Cox, P. Farrell, M. Mosca, B. Crowley, K. O'Sullivan, S. Rowland tries; M.Elmes 8, P.Walsh goals.
Arana kicked off to start the game and unfortunately let the opposition run half the field. When Arana gained the ball they turned it around to score and converte in the first 3 mins. They then went on a scoring rampage to go to half time score of 44 nil. Brothers St. Brendans came out in a very aggressive mode in the second half keeping our attack under control and scoring a try. To their credit the boys keep their cool and played football and even scored more tries. Unfortunately the game was called off with 5 mins to go for the safety of players. The boys passed the ball around well which resulted in tries. Defence still needs work. But on a whole the boys played well as a team.
Round 14: Souths 62 def Arana 0 at Brandon Park (HT Souths 16-0)
Souths were quick off the mark scoring in the first 2 mins then again about 5 mins later converting both. The boys defended well until 5 mins before half time allowing Souths to score again. In the second half the boys defence was very ordinary allowing Souths to run freely with the ball. Top tacklers Mitch (23), Shaun (17). Peter C. had a great attack and defensive game out on the wing. Paul and Peter C. created some great combinations in attack and were unlucky to turn one into a try.
Round 13: Arana 32 def Logan City 24 at Dawson Pde (HT Arana 16-10)
Scorers: P.Flanagan 3, M.Elmes, P.Walsh. M.Mosca tries; M.Elmes 4 goals.
The boys played with only 13 players (some sick with the flu and injury) and 4 in positions they have never played in before. These boys fitted in well. Arana scored and converted 2 tries within the first 5 mins. Arana scored again before Logan City put in 2 quick tries before half time. Unlike last week Arana got a penalty in front of the post early in the second half and this time they took the penalty goal to give them a 8 point buffer. They never let the score line get any closer. Mitch (playing centre) was the top tackler (24). 7 other players did between 10 - 13 tackles each. Paul (playing hooker for the first time) made some great scoots from dummy half. Jason and Todd both had their personal best games in defence and attack. Great game to all the boys.
Round 12: Arana 26 def Redlands 20 at Pinklands (HT Redlands 16-14)
Scorers: M.Elmes 2, C.Higgs 2, P.Flanagan, B.Crowley tries;
M.Elmes goal.
The start of the game look like Redlands were going to walk all over us with 2 quick tries.
But then we got the ball and attacked well with Mitch scoring and converting his own try.
From then on the teams defence was strong when it was really needed. The lose of both halves to injuries found players playing in unfamiliar position. They handled this well. Top tacklers - Pat (16), Mitch and Kev (14). The score line could have been wider but unfortunately we were unable to convert our tries. The boys left the side line wondering why they did not go for a penalty kick in front of the post with 2 mins to go. But they got the same result a win.
Chairman's Trophy: Souths 24 def Logan Bros 16
Round 11: Arana 38 def Centenary 12 at Dawson Pde (HT Arana 16-8)
Scorers: P. Flanagan 2, K. O'Sullivan 2, P. Farrell 2, P. Cox tries;
M. Elmes 4, T. Dunn goals.
Centenary came out strong but our solid defence held them out allowing us to score first with a try to Paul and conversion by Mitch. The boys once again showed that when they play like a team they can win. There was some very good passing and putting players into to spaces especially from Shaun. Elmo had a great confidence game on the wing as did Peter C. showing his speed. The defence from all players stayed strong with Kev (17) and Mitch (14) topping the tackle count. Defence from dummy half was extremely strong. Great game by all players. We must not forget the great job Gay did as duty official.
Round 10: Holy Spirit 32 def Arana 16 at Francis Rd (HT Holy Spirit 18-6)
Scorers: K.O'Sullivan 2, C.Higgs tries; M.Elmes, S.Rowlands goals.
The start of game was promising with Arana scoring in the first 5 mins with Kev busting through the defence to score and Mitch converting. Holy Spirit were quick to respond.
Our defence tried hard but left a few holes. Top tacklers Pat (15) and Kev (14). Shaun had a great game at five-eight. Kevvie again was showing the way forward. The team has shown that they can be competitive but have to make fewer errors.
Round 9: Redcliffe 20 def Arana 10 at Dawson Pde (HT Redcliffe 10-0)
Scorers: P. Dowling, M. Mosca tries; M.Elmes goal.
The game started off with great defence from both teams with no score until about the 20th minute. The forwards shared the tackles around with an extra effort from Kev (16) and Mitch (13). Mitch once again showed he is back. Kev and Matt took the ball up well.
Redcliffe found our weakness and used this to their advantage. Shane R had another good game at full back.
Round 8: Logan Bros 36 def Arana 8 at Civic Park (HT Logan Bros 18-8)
Scorers: M. Mosca, S. Rowland tries.
With the prospect of having a full squad for the first time the boys were eager to play. (17 played) The boys were having a lapse in concentration in defence (maybe too early for them) which saw Logan getting in a few soft tries. Pat was once again putting in a great effort in defence. Mitch made his comeback today (broken colarbone) and he played as if he had been playing the whole season not just coming back from 8 weeks on the sideline. On a whole their defence and field position (too much bunching) let them down. Good to see you didn't give up boys even nearly scoring in the last seconds of the game.
Round 7: Arana 36 def Deception Bay 10 at Arana (HT ?)
Scorers: P. Flanagan 2, P. Farrell, M. Mosca, S. Rowland, T. Sellin, P. Walsh tries; S Rowland 2, T. Dunn, P. Flanagan goals.
Before anyone had a chance to settle down to watch the game Todd went over for a try within the first 6 tackles. With the team still reduced to only 15 players they defended well and went up in a line together. The work load was spread around. It was another good team game.
Round 6: Arana 54 def St.Brendan's 10 at Kookaburra Park (HT Arana 28-10)
Scorers: S. Rowland 2, P. Flanagan 2, S. Palmer 2, B. Crowley, K. O'Sullivan, P. Farrell, T. Sellin, M. Mosca tries; K. O'Sullivan 4, P. Flanagan goals.
Pressure was on from the start with the team being reduced to 14 players due to injuries and other commitments. The boys certainly didn't think so because straight from kick off with the first touch of the ball Shane R. scored a 90 metre try in the first minute which was converted by Kev. Shortly after winger Sam P. went in for a try in the corner.
From then on they never looked back. The tries were spread well between the backs (6) and the forwards(5). St. Brendans got 2 soft tries in the first half and Arana soon rectified this by keeping them scoreless in the second half. Good hard tackles done by Shaun, Kev and Pat. Matt and Kev were taking the ball up well making good ground. Half way through the 2nd half St. Brendans were starting to get very physical but Arana kept their cool. On a whole it was a good team win.
Round 5: Souths 50 def Arana 0 at Frank Lind Oval (HT Souths 28-0)
The game against Souths was always going to be a very tough one but due to injuries to some of our players and on a very hot afternoon the boys struggled in defence and Souths took full advantage of this. Pat had a great game in defence topping the tackle count. Kyle one of our new players (never played before) pulled off some great tackles. As always Paul was taking the ball up well and defending well. Great effort in the circumstances.
Round 4: Arana 56 def Logan City 0 at Meakin Park (HT Arana 36-0)
Scorers: P.Dowling 3, C.Higgs 3, P.Flanagan 2, S.Rowland, K.O'Sullivan, P.Farrell tries; P.Flanagan 2, P.Walsh, T.Dunn, P.Dowling, S.Keely goals.
The boys played like a team possessed right from the kick off. Logan City knocked on which resulted in us scoring in the first minute. We never kicked off again. The backs were having a field day running from in the opposition half to score. Peter Dowling had a great game out on the wing scoring a hat trick as did Callan Higgs in the centres. The defence held out Logan City in the end to keep them tryless. Tim Dunn suffered a shoulder injury in the last 10 mins (seriousness not yet known). All players contrituted to a excellent team win and they all deserve a mention. Peter Dowling was named man of the match. Well done boys.
Round 3: Arana 18 def Redlands 16 at Arana (HT Redlands 8-6)
Scorers: B.Crowley 2, S.Rowland, C.Higgs tries; P.Walsh goal.
Well it was a great team effort from the boys. They started off slow (as they have been doing) but to their credit they didn't let Redlands get too far in front. The defence held strong (from both teams). Paul Flanagan made some great breakaways that gave us good field position. Kevvie proved to a slippery player a few times (maybe small and strong does have some advantage). The game turned out to be a real heart stopper with the lead changing 4 times. With each team scoring 4 tries our 1 conversion was very important to the result. Matt Mosca had good defence game. Overall it was a great team effort and they all deserve a mention.
Round 2: Centenary 28 def Arana 20 at Centenary (HT Cent 12-10)
Scorers: B.Crowley, S.Palmer, K.O'Sullivan, C.Higgs tries; P.Walsh, T.Dunn goals.
Arana were only in their own half a few times in the first half so they defended well. Pat Farrell had a great game in defence. Callan Higgs made a great run (nearly full field) which ended in setting up a try. Peter Cox and Kevvie made some great hit ups also. Kevvie used his head in his try, head down and connecting with the goal post but then rolled and scored. All new players played to their ability, remembering some have never played before, a great effort. Again 3 Centenary A's played for the B's but this should not be an excuse because Arana could have won it. They were even in front at one stage. Lets not forget the great effort from one of the waterboys Mitchell Elms!!! A win is not far away!
Round 1: Holy Spirit 40 def Arana 10 at Arana (HT Holy Spirit 22-4)
Scorers: P.Flanagan, S.Rowlands tries; K.O'Sullivan goal.
This was not a bad effort from the team at all, as Holy Spirit played some boys down from the A's.
